The Joy of Collaboration

I enjoy collaborations with artists in other disciplines – painting inspired by poetry, poetry inspired by photography, poetry accompanied by music, dance accompanied by poetry, poetry set to music.  I’ve composed while avant-garde musicians jammed, I’ve performed with piano, pickle bucket percussion and beat boxing in the background.  (Not all at the same time!) At my first book launch, one of the poems was set to music by Peruvian poet/musician Kildem Soto.  I’m currently working on a project of character sketches inspired by iconic photographers like Annie Liebovitz and Kat Benzova.

Most recently, I started one of these character sketches on the lead singer of a punk band.    Somewhere along the line it turned into what could become lyrics.  Will it turn into song?  Time will tell…

Pretty Mouth

I eat men like you for dinner
coz you never stay for breakfast
a woman with opinions
sends you running for the exit.

But
When I paint this witty mouth
When I paint this pretty mouth
When I paint this witty mouth
You forget to be afraid.

When a sexy invitation
puts you on the road to ruin
I use your infatuation
and my brains are your undoin’.

Coz
When I paint this witty mouth
When I paint this pretty mouth
When I paint this witty mouth
You forget to be afraid.
